![]() To add a desktop you just by opening Mission Control and clicking add another desktop. Effectively, you can create lots of monitors on your single Mac and switch between them very quickly. Got loads of applications bunched up on a single screen? You may have used multiple monitors to get around this before (and I would still recommend having an extra monitor if you can) but you don't need it on MacOS - you can work extremely efficiently by using desktops. Note : This one is the longest tip but it's easily the most productive thing you can do on your Mac so please bear with it!Īdd lots of desktops. You can just three-finger spread your fingers (or you can assign hotkey if you want) and it will immediately allow you to see all of your apps, access all of your desktops and even drag windows between desktops. ![]() Mission Control is one of the first things you should learn to use on your Mac. You just need to turn it on in the Trackpad settings (under System Preferences > Trackpad) Step 3 : Basics : Learn to switch apps effectively It will preserve your trackpad and it's also quicker. This means you can just tap your trackpad and it will register as a click. Using finger gestures on there will give you RSI so I'd strongly avoid it (or any kind of scroll wheel). Note : I would definitely stay away from the Magic Mouse. Just read Apple's guide on right-clicking. Right clicking is a bit of a pain at first but you get used to it. Get used to right-clicking on the trackpad. Show Mission Control (see Step 3) = Spread Three fingers ![]() Scroll Up and Down = Two fingers up and down You can read Apple's guide on these but the ones I'd recommend learning are: Ditch your mouse! This isn't imperative but I'd strongly recommend it - your mouse will slow you down - a lot! The trackpad on MacBooks (or standalone Magic Trackpad on iMac) are extremely well built (unlike almost any trackpad available on a Windows machine) and enable you to use the keyboard more (because you're right next to it). ![]()
